(the) ADDER (animal):a poisonous snake. "Another was slain when an ADDER forced into his mouth tore its way free through the side of his face." Pg. 26, Marauders of Gor.

(the) AFFLICTED (people):those plagued with Dar-Kosis Disease.
"Finding this poor fellow in the Voltai, so far from the natural routes and fertile areas of Gor, I suspected he might have escaped, if that was possible, from one of the Pits. "What is your name?' I asked. "I am of the AFFLICTED," said the weird, cringing figure. "The AFFLICTED are dead. The dead are nameless." Pg. 151, Tarnsman of Gor.

AH-IL (measurement): a unit of measure, the distance from the elbow
to the tip of the middle finger. Note: 10 ah-il equal one ah-ral. "Cloth is measured in the AH-IL, which is the length from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger..." Pg. 50, Tribesmen of Gor.

AHN (time): the Gorean hour, of which there are 20 in a Gorean day;
it consists of 40 ehn(minutes). "The shadows of the pasang stones had grown long, and, judging by the angle of these shadows (for the stones are set in such a way as to serve also as sundials) it was past the fourteenth Gorean AHN, or hour." Pg. 26, Outlaw of Gor.

AH-RAL (measurement): a unit of measure equalling 10 ah-il. "...and the AH-RAL, which is ten ah-ils." Pg. 50, Tribesmen of Gor.

AL-KA (language): first letter of the Gorean alpha- bet; corresponds to the Earth letter 'A'.

"AL-KA," I repeated. We looked at one another, and both of us laughed. A tear of amusement formed along the side of his sharp nose, and his pale blue eyes twinkled. I had begun to learn the Gorean alphabet." Pg. 38, Tarnsman of Gor.

ALBRECHT (person): a Warrior of the Kassar Camp. Nomads of Gor.

ALL COMRADES (people): a warrior society of the Kaiila tribe of Red Savages; aka the Fighting Hearts. "The sign for the ALL COMRADES," I said, "is the heart and lance." Pg. 314, Savages of Gor.

AMUSEMENTS OF THARNA (festival): a festival of sorts put on in the city of Tharna where prisoners of Tharna are put through rigorous contests for the amusements of the Women of the city, its beginning signified by the dropping of a golden scarf by the Tatrix. "The golden scarf fluttered to the sands of the arena and the Tatrix resumed her throne, reclining upon its cushions. The voice speaking through the trumpet said, "Let the AMUSEMENTS OF THARNA begin." Pg. 111, Outlaw of Gor.

ANANGO(place): an island in the south of Gor. "...a black woman, veiled in yellow, borne in a palaquin by eight black warriors, perhaps from as far south as ANANGO or Ianda;..." Pg. 41, Hunters of Gor.

ANCHOR-HOOKS (equipment): anchors which are used to holdships in place, one usually is placed at the stem, one at the stern. "Soon, each drawn by two warriors, the ANCHOR-HOOKS, curved and three-pronged, not unlike large grappling irons, emerged dripping from the mud of the marsh. These ANCHOR-HOOKS, incidentally, are a great deal lighter than the anchors used in the long galleys, and the round ships." Pg. 61, Raiders of Gor.

ANDREAS (person): of the Caste of Poets from the desert city of Tor, as told in the Outlaw of Gor, however in Assassin of Gor He was referred to by Tarl as being of the Caste of Singers. "I could never again face those I had known, Kron of Tharna, ANDREAS of Tor...." Pg. 88,
Raiders of Gor.

ANKLE BAR(equipment): a bar to which a chain from a metal ring placed around the ankle of a slave, can be secured. One ankle ring is closed on the girl's ankle, the chain passed about the bar and then, on the other ankle, the second ankle ring is closed, securing the slave. "One of the wagons had an ANKLE BAR, and the other one was fitted with the ANKLE BAR from Targo's damaged wagon, which he then abandoned and burned to the grass." Pg. 65, Captive of Gor.

ANKLE RING(equipment): a metal ring placed around the ankle of a slave to hook a chain too or secure them to a floor ring. "He also purchased certain articles of slavers' equipment, a display chain, various other sorts of chains, slave bracelets, ANKLE RINGS, neck collars, binding fiberts, branding irons and whips." Pg. 63, Captive of Gor.

ANKLETED (equipment): to have an anklet placed on one's ankle. "You are going to be ANKLETED," he said, "placed in numbered
anklets. Do not try to remove the anklets. You will not be able to do so. They will be locked on you. We will keep track of you by means
of the numbers. They will identify you in our records, where your hair and eye color, your measurements, and such, will be recorded."

ANTICHTHON (place): another name for Gor. Plunder of Gor

ANTISTHENES (person): a captain of Port Kar, joined with Bosk towards the end of Raiders. "I rose to my feet. "ANTISTHENES, Captain," I said, "I am grateful for your concern." Pg. 167, Raiders of Gor.

APHRIS (person): the richest woman in Turia, money given after her father, Tethrar's death, Kamchak paid 10,000 bars of gold for her, she became His slave, then was freed by Him, but she refused to be freed, and He made her Ubara of the Tuchuks. "This struck fire in APHRIS of Turia. She suddenly straightened indignantly and cried out, "Not I--Not APHRIS of Turia!" Pg. 136, Nomads of Gor.

AR (language): a letter of the Gorean alphabet. "Following these in frequency of occurrence are AR, Ina, Shu and Homan, and so on." Pg. 383, Slave Girl of Gor.

AR (place): the name of an important Gorean city-state, one of few northern cities with public baths. The warring between Ar and Tyros came from Tyeors paying pirates to disrupt shipping and try to control the borders around Ars northern side. "Yes," said the Older Tarl, "And there," he said, poking downward with his finger,"is the City of AR, hereditary enemy of Ko-ro-ba, the central city of Marlenus, who intends to be the Ubar of all Gor." Pg. 64, Tarnsman of Gor.

ARANI (people): a minor tribe of the Tahari; they are a vassal tribe of the Aretai. "On the left were the Ti, the ARANI, and the Zevar, and, holding the extremity of the flank, forty deep, the Tajuks." Pg. 307, Tribesmen of Gor.

ARETAI (people): a major tribe of the Tahari, their vassal tribes are the Arani, Luraz, Raviri, Tajuks,Tashid, Ti, and Zevar. Their war-cry is Aretai Victorious! "In the center were the Kavars and the ARETAI." Pg. 307, Tribesmen of Gor.

ARIA (people): of Ar. "The expression "Viktel ARIA" means "Ar's Triumph" or "The Triumph of Ar." Pg. 217, Kajira of Gor.

ARMORED GATCH (animal): a marsupial mammal which inhabits the rainforests inland of Schendi. "On the floor itself are also found several varieties of animal life, in particular marsupials, such as the ARMORED GATCH, and rodents, such as slees and ground urts." Pg. 312, Explorers of Gor.

ARN (person): an outlaw met by Tarl at the Exchange Point on the Laurius River while He was with Rim. Panther girls were purchased from Him. Later, He joined Bosks' party of men on their trek through the forests. "He grinned. "I know him," he said. "He is ARN." Pg. 19, Hunters of Gor.

ARROWS (weapon): usually made of wood, with steel tips, feather winging. "..in a verr-skin quiver, temwood sheaf ARROWs, nineteen of them, piled with steel, winged with the feathers of the vosk gull." Pg. 177, Hunters of Gor.

ARSENAL GUARD (group): the group which is in charge of assuring the weaponry and aresenal of a city is safe and protected from being overtaken. "The ARSENAL GUARD, however, perhaps for traditional reasons, remained a separate body, concerned with the arsenal, and having jurisdiction within its walls." Pg. 218, Raiders of Gor.

ASPERICHE (place): one of the islands in the Thassa. "From Lydius goods may be embarked for the islands of Thassa, such as Teletus, Hulneth and ASPERICHE, even Cos and Tyros...." Pg. 59, Captive of Gor.

ASSASSINS, CASTE OF (group): the caste of those who kill for pay who's origins are in the Clan of Torturers. Their caste color is black. "When he of the CASTE OF ASSASSINS has been paid his gold and has received his charge he affixes on his forehead that sign, that he may enter whatever city he pleases, that none may interfere with his work." Pg. 7, Assassin of Gor.

AUTUMNAL EQUINOX (date): the same as fall on Earth. "It was fourth day of the sixth passage hand, shortly before the AUTUMNAL EQUINOX, which in the common Gorean calendar begins the month of Se'Kara." Pg. 1, Raiders of Gor.
