The miliarty and strategic importance of controlling the eastern termination of the Boswell Pass was clear. It was at this time that the place came to be known as Fort Haskins."

KASRA

KASSAU
*trade port on coast of Thassa Major trade center, north of the forests. The town is surrounded by a wall with two gates, a large one leading in from Thassa, and a smaller one which leads to the forest behind the town.*
"Kassau is the seat of the High Initiate of the north, who claims spiritual sovereighnty over Torvaldsland, which is commonly taken to commence with the thinning of the trees northward."

KO-RO-BA
*large city, homestone of Tarl Cabot. It was destroyed*
"An ancient poet, who incredibly enough to the Gorean mind had sung the glories of many of the cities of Gor, had spoken of Ko-ro-ba as the Towers of the Morning, and it is sometimes spoken of by that name. The word Ko-ro-ba itself, more prosaically, is simply an expression in archaic Gorean referring to a village market."

LARA

Laura is a small trading city, a river port, whose buildings are largely of wood, consisting mostly it seems of warehouses and taverns. It is a clearing house for many goods, wood, salt, fish, stone, fur and slaves."

PLAINS OF TURIA
*large grassy area stretching from the Thassa and the Ta-Thassa Mountains*
"I had left the vicinity of the Sardar Range in the month of Se-Var, which in the northern hemisphere is a winter month, and had journeyed south for months; and had come to what some call the Plains of Turia, others the Land of the Wagon Peoples, in the autumn of this hemisphere; there is, due apparently to the balance of land and water mass on Gor, no particular moderation of seasonal variations either in the northern or southeren hemisphere; nothing much, so to speak, to choose between them; on the other hand, Gor's temperaturs, on the whole, tend to be somewhat fircer than those of Earth, perhaps largely due to the fact of the wind-swept expanses of her gigantic land masses; indeed, though Gor is smaller than Earth, with consequent gravitational reduction, her actual land areas may be, for all I know, more extensive than those of my native planet; the areas of Gor which are mapped are large, but only a small fraction of the surface of the planet; much of Gor remains to her inhabitants simply terra incognita."

POLAR NORTH

RAINFOREST-CANOPY
*like the "ceiling" of the rainforest, it is 60' to 125' above the jungle floor this area contains the largest amount of birds, monkeys, reptiles, and insects*
"The second level is often spoken of as the canopy, or as that of the canopies. This is the fantastic green cover which constitutes the main ceiling of the jungle. It is what would dominate one's vision if one were passing over the jungle in tarn flight or viewing it from the height of a tall mountain. RAINFOREST-EMERGENT

*an area of islands which are formed by the intertwining of rence plants and floating on the water. These islands are rarely over 200' and 9' thick, with only a small amount showing above water, usually 3' or less*

They are formed entirely from the interwoven stems of the rence plants and float in the marsh.
